SALISBURY, Maryland - Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Airlines Group Inc., is pleased to announce a cadet program partnership with Middle Georgia State University, the only four-year school of aviation in Georgia, to offer pilot prospects a guaranteed career path to American Airlines.
Piedmont Airlines will offer conditional employment and tuition reimbursement to select Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) at Middle Georgia State University, which currently offers flight training in Eastman, Georgia and Macon, Georgia. Once a CFI reaches the required ATP minimums, he or she will join Piedmont as a first officer, and eventually transition to American Airlines.
“Talented pilots now have an opportunity to get ahead of their peers and set a career path very early,” said Scott McGuigan, chief pilot for Piedmont Airlines. “Pilots who fly for Piedmont upgrade very quickly and then seamlessly transition to American to enjoy all the benefits of flying for the world’s largest airline. Piedmont gets the opportunity to choose and develop the best talent in the country, and selected CFIs get valuable experience and career stability.”
To be eligible, CFIs must have completed 500 hours of flight time and an interview with Piedmont’s recruiting team. Selected pilots will receive a bonus for every 100 hours of flight time until they reach the required ATP minimums and receive a $5,000 bonus when they transition to Piedmont.
“Middle Georgia State University is excited to offer our students yet another pathway into a fulfilling career in the aerospace industry—a multi-billion dollar driver of Georgia’s economy,” said Dr. Christopher Blake, president of Middle Georgia State. “We are proud to have been selected as a partner in the Cadet Program, and look forward to working with Piedmont Airlines to showcase the talents and exceptional skill of our Aviation students.”
