FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Grant funding provides opportunity to invest in future of aviation

SALISBURY, Maryland– Piedmont Airlines is pleased to partner with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) and local government agencies to establish an aircraft maintenance technician (AMT) certification program. Salisbury Wicomico Economic Development (SWED) has secured more than $3 million in grant funding announced by the state today to expand UMES’s School of Aviation Sciences, which will be managed and operated by UMES and housed in part of Piedmont’s current space at the Salisbury – Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport.

This new program is a key step in Piedmont’s efforts to invest in local workforce development and support the long-term success of the operation.

“We are excited to work with UMES, SWED and local government to make the most of this opportunity,” said Piedmont Airlines CEO, Eric Morgan. “Sharing facilities and assisting with the startup of the new AMT school will ultimately strengthen our ability to sustain jobs and grow our operation here in Salisbury. Investing in our team members and resources is critical to achieving our goals of reliability, profitability, and supportability.”

Details of the new arrangement are being finalized and are expected to be announced publicly in the coming weeks. Piedmont Airlines thanks SWED, UMES, and Wicomico County for their support in this endeavor and looks forward to continuing to serve American Airlines and our community.
