Dispatcher Trainee Program launches in March

Dispatcher at Piedmont Airlines

To facilitate future airline growth, Piedmont’s Dispatch department is launching a new flight dispatcher trainee program that will take the place of the Dispatch Scholarship Program. The Dispatch department is seeking to hire 10 dispatch trainees for their March class to be held at Piedmont’s headquarters in Salisbury, Maryland.

“If you’ve ever thought about becoming a flight dispatcher and want to obtain your Dispatch certificate, now is the time,” shares Jason Culver, Director of Piedmont Flights Operations Control. “Piedmont is bringing the training class to Salisbury at no cost to trainees who apply and are selected for the program. Once trainees obtain their Dispatch certificate, they have a guaranteed job at Piedmont receiving the highest pay of any regional carrier.”

While our aim is to grow and develop local talent, the Dispatcher Trainee program is open to all current Piedmont team members and external applicants in the Salisbury region. No experience is required however, applicants must be 23 years of age and successfully pass a drug and alcohol test and background check to be considered.

Jeppesen Academy will conduct the Dispatch certification course and Piedmont will cover the cost for all training and testing. The class duration is six weeks and trainees will test for their dispatch certificate at the end of training. Once a Dispatch certificate is achieved, trainees will become full-time Piedmont dispatchers with on-the-job training provided.

“A career as a flight dispatcher may appeal to those who have an interest in geography, meteorology and/or math or who want to learn more about our airline operation,” shares Jason. “A dispatcher’s typical work schedule spans seven days a week, AM & PM shifts, and four days on with three days off.  There is ample opportunity for growth and development in the department and dispatchers have the benefit of jump seat privileges. We call working in the Operations Control Center working at the heart of the airline and we are seeking the best talent out there.”
