PIA, Piedmont and American partner to share aviation maintenance opportunities with high school students

Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA), Piedmont and American hosted high school students interested in aviation at American’s line maintenance facility in DCA. Twenty-seven students from the aviation program at Dr. James A. Forrest Technology Center in Leonardtown, Maryland enjoyed a day of learning about aviation maintenance and airport tours.

“As the maintenance shortage continues to be a challenge, Piedmont is continuing to look for opportunities to raise awareness of the trade and share its importance to the industry,” said Kevin Dallaire, Piedmont Maintenance Recruiting Manager. “Partner events like this are a great way to accomplish that and also share what the American Airlines Group has to offer.”

An informative presentation was given to students by an American maintenance supervisor, PIA and Piedmont recruiters about the industry, mechanic shortage, required training, career growth and perks of the job. Students participated in a bus tour of the airport via the ramp, toured the hangar and stock room, and had the opportunity to board an Airbus 321 being serviced in the hangar.

“We value our partnership with PIA and appreciate the opportunity to partner with them,” said Kevin. “We also appreciate the DCA line maintenance team for their last minute accommodation in hosting this successful event in their hangar.”
