Piedmont Airlines brings aircraft maintenance, jobs to Albany International Airport
SALISBURY, Maryland — Piedmont Airlines, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Airlines Group, officially opens a new 37,000 square foot maintenance facility today at Albany International Airport in Albany, New York.
The newly renovated hangar is the sixth maintenance facility for Piedmont and doubles the size of Piedmont’s workforce in Albany, adding 72 new jobs to the area. The Albany location will service Piedmont’s fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets, supporting operations in New York, New England and Canada.
“We are excited to expand our maintenance team to Albany, and appreciate the work that was done to get the hangar ready for the peak summer travel season,” said Bill Arndt, Piedmont’s vice president of Maintenance and Engineering. “As we continue to hire skilled aircraft maintenance team members, we have the opportunity to increase reliability and customer service to American Eagle passengers who fly not just in and out of Albany, but all over the East Coast.”
Piedmont, American Airlines and the Albany County Airport Authority partnered to complete more than $3 million in initial renovations to the hangar, with more improvements to come. Renovations began in October 2018. Piedmont and airport team members celebrated the opening with a ribbon cutting, catered lunch and tours of the facility.
“The Albany International Airport prides itself on being an economic engine for the Greater Capital Region,” said Rev. Kenneth Doyle, chairman of the Albany County Airport Authority. “Piedmont’s decision to locate this maintenance facility at Albany International Airport plays an integral role in the airport’s mission to reinforce and boost our local economy.”
Piedmont will hire aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs), avionics technicians, quality control inspectors and aircraft parts clerks to maintain up to three aircraft per night. To attract quality candidates, Piedmont is offering technicians up to $17,500 in bonuses based on experience, and an additional $11,000 in incentives for veterans transitioning into civilian careers.
