Piedmont Ground Handling supports new summer operations in Hyannis, MA (HYA)
Piedmont is excited to announce their Ground Handling (PGH) team has been awarded the ground handling contract to support American operations at the Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) in Hyannis, MA, effective June 5 for the summer season of 2024. This exciting development marks a significant milestone for the organization and underscores Piedmont’s commitment to providing exceptional ground handling service at airports across the country.
The PGH team will support the new once daily departure to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York, which will be operated by Republic Airlines beginning today. Later in the month, on June 22, local HYA service will increase to two daily departures when American adds service from HYA to Washington Reagan
With seasonal service beginning on June 5 and running through Labor Day, the station will be staffed with temporary duty (TDY) employees, ensuring ground handling operations above the wing and below the wing to meet the needs of American’s customers.
The success of today’s new service is a testament to the multi-department collaboration across the organization, including the ground support team, finance, human resources, regional training, staffing, and more.
“This was certainly a group effort,” shared Fred Louden, Senior Station Director NE. “Taking the time to set up coordinating calls, working with IT as well as overseeing the necessary equipment for the station has been rewarding. Seeing all the departments come together with a smile to make today special speaks to the work being done in Cape Cod.”
“We are excited to expand for our customers in Hyannis,” shared Charisma Hunt, Operational Manager (HYA). “Being a part of the opening ceremony to start a new tradition and a new culture to the community is exciting for all of us.”
To celebrate this new route, the Piedmont team was joined by Obra Kernodle, Director of Government Affairs from American Airlines and John Griffin, Airport Commissioner for the inaugural ribbon cutting ceremony. There was also a water cannon salute, local food and flare and special giveaways for the passengers.
