Celebrating Community: Piedmont Airlines Honors Pride Month, Caribbean American Heritage Month, and Juneteenth

Community is at the heart of everything Piedmont Airlines stands for; whether it’s connecting travelers across the country or showing up in the neighborhoods we serve. Throughout the month of June, their Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), team member-led groups that foster inclusion, support professional development, and build community around shared identities and interests, led meaningful celebrations and community events in honor of Pride Month, Caribbean American Heritage Month, and Juneteenth. These observances brought team members and communities together in vibrant, authentic ways, reflecting their commitment to connection, culture, and care.

“Piedmont exists to bring people together, connecting small- and mid-sized communities to the rest of the world,” said Jacqueline Jennings, Vice President of People and Communications. “We are proud of the work we do in our more than  80  locations, so it’s a natural extension for us to get out and join our neighbors to celebrate, support, and assist in any way we can.”

Piedmont team members, joined by Vice President of People and Communications Jacqueline Jennings, showed up with pride and purpose, ready to support and celebrate at Salisbury Pride.

Supporting Pride in Salisbury, Maryland

Each June, Pride Month celebrates the history, contributions, and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. Piedmont’s PRIDE ERG brought those values to life at Salisbury Pride on June 28. Team members hosted a lively booth filled with giveaways, games, and conversations about inclusion and careers in aviation.

Jenn Morton, a PRIDE ERG board member and Customer Service Gate Agent at Manchester–Boston Regional Airport (MHT), described the event as both joyful and moving. “At Pride, each person is accepted as they are, treated with dignity and respect, and offered a safe space to be,” she said. “It was truly an affirming experience for everyone in attendance.”

Uplifting Caribbean American Heritage

Monifa B. Saunders, Piedmont’s Registration Coordinator for American Regional Training and a Caribbean ERG board member.

Observed throughout June, Caribbean American Heritage Month recognizes the rich cultural contributions of Caribbean Americans in the United States. In Charlotte, North Carolina, Piedmont’s Caribbean ERG partnered with the Black Professionals Network (BPN) to sponsor Juneteenth of the Carolinas, a multi-day celebration featuring music, food, and community engagement. Team members proudly connected with attendees at the event, sharing Piedmont swag, career information, and personal stories.

For Monifa Saunders, Piedmont’s Registration Coordinator for American Regional Training and a Caribbean ERG board member,  the event was especially meaningful.

“I felt a sense of pride representing Piedmont at the Juneteenth festival—being able to share information about the company I’ve spent the last 24 years with,” Saunders shared. “One moment that really resonated with me was seeing families of all ages and backgrounds stop by our booth. Those who knew of Piedmont in some capacity or another all had great things to say about the company.”

Honoring the Significance of Juneteenth

Piedmont team members immersed themselves in the powerful history and stories on display, gaining a deeper appreciation for the resilience, contributions, and legacy of Black Americans.

Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. To honor the occasion, Piedmont team members traveled to Washington, D.C. for a group visit to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, where they explored powerful exhibits and reflected on the significance of Black history in America.

For Ronisha Lee Bell, an Administrative Assistant on Piedmont’s Human Resources team and a Black Professionals Network ERG board member based in Philadelphia, the experience highlighted the value of shared connection and learning:

“Knowing that we all come from different backgrounds and upbringings, it’s meaningful to see everyone come together under one roof. These events are not only educational but also great for team bonding.”

Leading with Purpose

These events are just one part of how Piedmont continues to build a culture where their team members feel seen, supported, and valued. “It’s not enough to slap a rainbow on your logo and say you care,” said Jennings. “You have to show up.”

She added that Piedmont’s ERGs are helping shape the future of the company by identifying opportunities, building bridges, and serving as trusted voices for leadership. “The more we lean on ERGs to identify gaps and serve as advisory boards to our leaders, the better we’ll be,” Jennings said. “Those voices are important when we talk about our vision to build Piedmont Airlines to thrive forever.”
