Celebrating National Aviation Day

Every year on August 19th we come together to recognize Aviation Day – a national holiday that honors the aviation industry’s history, celebrates its resilience and inspires its future. Aviation was founded through determination, demonstrated best by its humble roots of two brothers, wind, sand and a dream of flight. Today, we honor the revolutionary impact of aviation by focusing on the thing that has always made us fly: our people.

As an aviation professional, adaptability and problem-solving are ingrained into every day life. Navigating fast-paced work environments feel like a breeze and handling challenges with skill and safety becomes a reflex. Since this time last year, when we celebrated Aviation Day, the world has seen many changes to the way we think and feel about the aviation industry. Yet despite all the deviations, there still remains an important constant. The drive and determination of the thousands of team members who continue to deliver safe and quality service.

As an organization, Piedmont Airlines takes pride in our people, focusing on partnerships and programs that aim to create both accessible and sustainable pathways to fulfilling careers. Through diverse partnerships, training scholarships, and intentional donations, we demonstrate our commitment to the aviation industry. Within our teams, we live out Piedmont’s mission of caring, compliance, and communication through community engagement, career development opportunities and employee resource groups that focus on allyship in action. And while there is always room for improvement, we are proud of the progress being made every day to create a culture where our team members can discover their journey and be their authentic self.

Investing time, resources and care into our future and current team members is just one way that we will ensure a successful future for the aviation industry. Built upon a foundation of resilience and grit, the aviation industry has endured what seems like it all. Across borders and time zones, aviation connects and unifies a world divided. Whether you’ve been in the industry for 30 years or 30 days – we’re still on the move. Let’s go together.

Happy National Aviation Day.
