Steve Farrow Award

Piedmont’s senior leadership team waited patiently at a restaurant in Philadelphia to surprise this year’s winner of the esteemed Steve Farrow Award. Surrounded by her family and colleagues, Senior Director of Operational Strategy Stephanie Gabis was recognized for her commitment to Piedmont Airlines.

In his remarks, Eddie Leverton, Vice President of Flight Operations shared why Stephanie is very deserving of this award. “Steph has really raised the industry bar for what a regional airline can do, and our metrics speak for themselves. She has an innate skill for seeing the big picture and forecasting how a particular event is going to pan out. She feels very passionate about Piedmont and runs toward an issue to find resolution day or night. Her favorite saying to me is “I will not let this fail.”

The award is named after former Piedmont CEO, Steve Farrow, and recognizes an unwavering commitment to the positive promotion of Piedmont Airlines through a proven track record of performance and compliance and a commitment to caring for Piedmont team members. The winner is selected by Piedmont’s senior leaders and is normally surprised with the award at the annual President’s Award ceremony at the Sullenberger Aviation Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Stephanie was unable to attend this year’s ceremony, so a surprise was planned in her hometown.

As someone who prefers working behind the scenes, Stephanie felt incredibly humbled to receive the award. “When I walked into the restaurant and saw all the senior leaders, I wasn’t sure what to expect,” she shared. “This recognition is truly a shared achievement. I am incredibly lucky to work with a team that brings so much dedication and passion to everything we do; their support makes all the difference. I couldn’t do my job without the collaboration of my team at the Operations Control Center (OCC) and the leaders who have supported me throughout my career.”

Reflecting on her career path, Gabis continues, “I am deeply grateful to Mandy McGuigan, Director of Inflight, for hiring me as a flight attendant and to Eddie and the rest of the team for trusting me with a role in the OCC. They gave me the space to succeed and have mentored me throughout my career.”

Eddie also shared the impact she has on her team and our passengers. “Steph always makes herself available to her team. She has the ability to bring her team with her, to mentor and motivate them during the darkest times and even sometimes make an irregular operation (IROP) fun. She is a leader who inspires. She has not only had an incredible impact on her team in the OCC but also on thousands of passengers who have been able to reach life’s important moments, business trips, weddings, graduations, or birth of a grandchild, because of her leadership.”
